I am known amongst my friends for always finding a bottlebrush, in a different country on holiday or in a seaside British town – wherever I least expect it, I’ll find a bottlebrush, which is a reminder of home. I was delighted when they suddenly became popular and I bought one in the garden centre. After waiting years for it to flower, it suddenly went brown and that was the end of that! I am known amongst my friends for always finding a bottlebrush, in a different country on holiday or in a seaside British town – wherever I least expect it, I’ll find a bottlebrush, which is a reminder of home. I was delighted when they suddenly became popular and I bought one in the garden centre. After waiting years for it to flower, it suddenly went brown and that was the end of that! So this is me being upset about the demise of the bottlebrush, but also the powerful memories of home that it brings me. There are other flower shapes here, the giant red and gold shape is probably another native flower from home but abstracted and painted gold because I loved it so much.
